Victoria Beckham And Edward Enninful On Finding Your Fashion Career
Victoria Beckham And Edward Enninful On Finding Your Fashion Career |
For British Vogue and YouTube's Vogue Visionaries series two finale, fashion designer Victoria Beckham and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful share how they forged their own paths in fashion and became two of the leading figures in their field. |
Although she first made her name as one fifth of the Spice Girls, famous for her sleek black bob and spaghetti-strap LBDs, Beckham – now established as a successful fashion designer and founder of her own brand – tells Enninful that fashion design was "always something I wanted to do. It was always a passion of mine." Enninful's journey, meanwhile, began when he was "discovered on a train" as a teenager by stylist Simon Foxton, which led to him becoming a model before being appointed as fashion director of i-D magazine at just 18. "I remember stepping on my first photoshoot as a model – I saw the set, other models and photographer and I knew in that moment this was going to be my world," he recalls. "I didn't know in what capacity, but I knew that was it." What hasn't changed is the need to know everything about your craft in order to be a success and in the episode the pair share some valuable tips and life lessons they've learned through trial and error. "Be a sponge," says Beckham. "I would tell a young designer to work for another brand. Learn while someone else is paying the bills. It's a big responsibility to have your own brand."
